On
Friday the 15th of March ten Airstream rigs including some
VAC trailers pulled in to the Fenced area of the"Desert
Star Ranch" in Borrego Springs, California. Some fierce
March weather made life a bit uncomfortable but it was a
comforting sight to see all the windows glowing warmly as
guests moved around from trailer to RV to trailer and enjoyed
a great meal and company.
Saturday
morning brought one of the most rare and dramatic views
of snow and a clearing storm high in the mountains west
of Borrego Springs. After the business meeting we had a
guided tour of the interesting history of the old, abandoned
"Solar farm". How $45,000,000 could have dissappeared into
the desert is still quite a mistry. Out on the property
high dust columns rose up to fleeting rainbows over by the
mountains.
Saturday
afternoon several guests went over to town and to visit
the Schuler's 100 acre future home site in Borrego. If you've
already been to Borrego Springs you know that the little,
quaint town is surrounded by the Sate's largest state park:
The Anza Borrego State Park. They have a great visitor's
center and always a long list of things to see and do in
the area. Saturday evening it was a round robin dinner,
catered, ribs and rice, desserts and much more! This Airstream
group enjoys the food and the company of fellow memebers
and their guests.
The furthest
distance award went to Lois and Norm Showers who came out
from Pennsylvania! The oldest Airstream award went to Al
Florin who came with his '67 Caravel. He's the original
owner and it's still under the original warrantee!! The
next oldest rig woul be Phil and Heather Auchter's '68 ambassador.
Sunday morning Jim Wilder gave the group an interesting
history of Saint Patrick. Then it was time to pose for the
group photo shot! Any one seeking more photos of the site
snd event can contact us. DESERTSTARANCH@aol.com
